5 valuable tips for arranging several pictures harmoniously on a wall

A stylish gallery wall brings personality to your home and makes your favorite works of art a focal point. But how do you arrange different pictures—whether framed art prints or canvas prints—so that they appear harmonious? Here are five valuable tips for creating the perfect wall.

1. Choose the right arrangement

There are several ways to arrange multiple pictures on the wall:

• Symmetrical arrangement : Perfect for an orderly, elegant overall look. This arrangement involves arranging images at equal intervals in a straight line or in a grid.
• Asymmetrical arrangement : This creates a loose, creative look. Different sizes and formats are combined to create a unique composition.
• Central focus : A large image is chosen as the center around which smaller images are grouped.

💡 Tip: Before drilling, you can test the arrangement with cut-out paper shapes on the wall or lay the pictures out on the floor first.

2. Find the right mix of frames and canvas prints

• Canvas prints without frames look particularly modern and minimalist.
• Framed art prints add elegance to the room and can be customized using different frame colors and materials.
• A mix of both creates exciting contrasts – for example, a large canvas print as the centerpiece and smaller, framed works around it.

3. Pay attention to the correct height

The ideal height for a picture wall is eye level —meaning the center of the entire composition should be approximately 140–150 cm above the floor. Above furniture such as a sofa or sideboard, there should be at least 20–30 cm of space between the bottom edge of the frame and the furniture.

💡 Tip: If the picture wall consists of many small pictures, you should orient yourself on an imaginary center line so that the arrangement does not appear cluttered.

4. Coordinate the colors and motifs

To ensure that the picture wall creates a harmonious overall picture, pay attention to a well-thought-out color selection:

• Tone-on-tone colors provide calm and elegance.
• Strong contrasts bring tension into the room.
• Recurring elements such as similar frame colors or a common motif (e.g. nature or spiritual symbols) connect different images with each other.
